Cabinet refacing keeps the existing cabinet boxes and countertops, then updates the visible cabinet components. A typical TFL Remodel project includes new doors and drawer fronts, matching laminate on face frames and exposed sides, new hinges, and selected hardware.

Answers for planning a cabinet-refacing project.
Cabinet refacing is easier to understand when the practical questions are answered directly: what stays, what changes, and when a different path is better.
Understanding refacing
Questions homeowners ask before they decide.
The project scope is built around the cabinetry in your home. It can include new doors and drawer fronts made in our Alabama shop, matching laminate for cabinet boxes, soft-close hinges, pulls and knobs, plus scope-dependent details such as crown molding, light rail, toe kicks, end panels, filler strips, open shelves, or a limited cabinet conversion.
Cabinets are good candidates when the boxes are solid, the layout works for how you use the room, and you want to update what you see and touch. We look at the existing cabinetry as part of the estimate and design conversation.
Refacing is not the best path when cabinet boxes have significant water damage or are failing, or when your project calls for a completely new kitchen layout. In those cases, it is better to begin with the right scope than to force a refacing solution.
No. TFL is thermally fused laminate: a decorative, resin-saturated surface fused to a panel. Thermofoil is a vinyl film heat-applied over a door. TFL does not use that wrapped vinyl skin, which is why it does not have the same peeling failure associated with thermofoil.
How a refaced kitchen wears depends on the selections, care, and the condition of the cabinets being retained. We will review the materials and the condition of your existing cabinetry so you can make an informed decision for your project.
Because refacing keeps the existing countertops, the door, laminate, and hardware selections are chosen with those surfaces in view. Bring photos or discuss the countertop during your estimate so the visible materials can be coordinated.
New pulls, knobs, and hinges can be discussed as part of a cabinet update. If you are considering only hardware, call or text us with a photo of the cabinets and the change you have in mind.
Show us the affected area during the estimate. A limited repair, modification, or a different path may be appropriate depending on the location and condition of the box.
Preparation depends on the scope and the work area. We will explain what should be cleared before the on-site portion of your project begins so you can plan around the installation.
Doors and panels are made before the on-site installation portion. Once materials are ready, many refacing installations are completed in a few days on site rather than the extended demolition period associated with a full replacement. Exact timing depends on your scope.
Yes. TFL Remodel can discuss bathroom vanities, laundry-room cabinetry, offices, and built-ins in addition to kitchens. The existing cabinetry and project goals determine the appropriate scope.
